What's wrong with me

l have been suffering from Patalla tendonitis for about a year now.l have been to many doctors and been in therapy since the whole thing started.The pain just does not seem to go away. l am in college and run track and l am only 18 years old..... The only things that l have found relief in doing is resting and a deep tissue massage. l perfor a deep tissue massage by pressing very hard on the affected area and massaging it.The pain is extreme at points when l do this but after l am finished l feel almost absolutely nothing.l was told to try this by a one of my physical therapists.l just came back after a week of of rest and just did the bike and we feeling perfect.l felt great but after running 6 days in a row the pain has come back and l am back to square one again..... l am thinking about just giving up because this injury has my life hell since it happened a year ago. l had to miss my senior year of track because it and l feel like an old man walking around campus when l just an 18 year old freshman.l have prayed to God to fix it but the time has not happened yet.Please if anyone has any tips please help.l am almost at the breaking point......

Of course consult a doctor before taking this advice, but.

Perhaps a week is not long enough to rest? You've had this problem for over a year. It might take several weeks or even a couple months to get over the injury. The key thing to remember is that you've gotten yourself to a certain level of competition before. You know how to get there again. If you need a month off to get healthy, take it. Do not give up unless there is no alternative!

As a runner, this is going to be hard to say to another runner:
Take at least 6-8 weeks off of running, continue doing physio & inquire about acupuncture. 1 week is not enough (especially if you've been running with a year of troubles with ur knee. Do the excerise that the physiotherapist recommends & stick to the plan, keep biking but avoid running. You run too much with that kind of injury. Always when u get back into running start with small distances & time & no more that 3 days a week. Eventually u can continue to run more freqluently & longer, but ease into it. Be patient.

Go to a running store & get fitted into proper shoes (wear ur running shoes u run in & let them analyze ur gait, foot type, wear & etc.) It is possible u may need orthotics.

Avoid running on hills up or down, shorten ur strides, & also do not run on the camber (slanted edge of the road - this can cause stress to one knee - at the high side of the road) Ice, massage, strengthen ur knees & take advil when necessary.

Patella Tendonitis does take a long time to recover, its up to u to rest as recommended (it does not heal in a week, more like 6-8 weeks)
