l run outside. Where l live the air is pretty polluted. l find that after running outside, l weeze and cough quite a bit. l just started running so l dont know if it is because l just need to adjust to breathing or if l should start running on a treadmill...any thots?

l believe that it is because you just started running. l mean, they ran in the Olympics with that crappy air.

It takes a little while to get the lungs in shape. The air can not be good, but like any other muscle used in exercise, your lungs need time to get conditioned as well.

Start slow & eventually ur lungs will get used to it as they fill with black, dirty air.
A while back a study stated that people living in high smog areas, for over 25 or so yrs will take about 4 to 5 yrs off their life, areas
like LA, Denver, Chicago, Beijing, Rome, etc.
As u can see around u there r many, many people living
in it all the time. So again, u will adapt to it, but if u stay in it long
enough, oh well.

Every time l start running after being off and out shape, l wheeze quite bit, but it usually means l am running to fast for my level of conditioning. Slowing down seems to help. As l get in shape it goes away. Also pollen can be effecting you.

it may be a combination of the things, try running trails or in a different town, if you still feel the same then it is because you are getting in shape if you dont notice it its because of the air, how ever it may also be your breathing techniques. hope that helps
