My knees hurt a LOT. I started running about 3-1/2 weeks ago.

l would like to run a marathon a year from now, so l was running consistently - a walk/run for a mile or two, twice a day.Everything was fine the first two weeks, then my knee (inside, below) got a little sore, l ''ran through the pain'' for a day or two, now it is unbearable.l could barely walk.

The thing is - l was just started to enjoy running.I am 49, by the way, running to lose weight (about 20 pounds), and to train for a marathon, which I've been wanting to do all my life.l so wanna get back to running, but every time l go out l walk half a block and realize it is still too painful.How long do l have to sit it out?I've been searching the internet for how long runner is knee last, could not find anything.

Sounds like tendinitis or possible arthritis. Try running on an elliptical for now to take pressure of the knees. You may have to bench it for 1-2 weeks.

running is extremely enjoyable, if done in moderation. given ur age, l think its safe to say u r overdoing it. its good to set a deadline for ur marathon but u must start off slow, two or three times a week for a couple months, & increase intensity progressively from there. u can not jump right into it, that is asking for an injury & is ultimately counterproductive (being forced to take time off running). if u r not ready for ur marathon in a years time due to being under-trained, u wo not be far off ur mark. take some time off & get back into it, & stay positively motivated!

knee problem, must get that checked out
one thing l know that helps is leg lifts and strengthening quads
