Dr roger Bannister, but John Landy was very close before that.then they met in Commonwealth games in Vancouver 1954..Banister again won, but Landy later claimed the record.

Then in the 1956 Games at Melbourre, Ron Delaney of Ireland won gold as Landy clipped another runner and paused to see if he was ok. 1500 metres, but not a record.

In 1954, Roger Bannister was the first to go under four minutes. John Landy then went a few seconds faster just 46 days later.

The 46 days Bannister held the mile record is the shortest time for any mile record holder.

That is really fucking fast.
