l wanna run ''long distance the events being the mile and the 800. What is some advice you can give?
I am new to the sport but l run 1.1 to 2.2 miles every day. l have long legs and I am 5 foot 7 with a weight of 122 pounds. I am a girl, age 14.

Hi Staci: The 800 & mile really r middle distance races so u need a balance of speed & endurance training. Try to get ur miles up to thirty miles per week - remember not increase by 10% per week. It is important that u work on ur strength for these events - so do plenty of resistance training - such as resistance bands or free weights. Also 3 times a week try to do speed sessions of:
1. 400 meters X 8 at mile pace 2. 200 meters X 16 at 400 meter pace 3. 600, 500, 400, 300, 200 & back up again at mile pace 4. 50 meter sprints up hill at 90% maximum X 8 5. Occasional 5K race (once or every other month)
For instance A on Monday; B on Wednesday & C on Friday. Try to do cross country running later when ur in high school or with a club. Running form is really important so look into bounding & skipping exercises. Do planks for ur core. Good luck!

Also, once u have developed a base (endurance/stamina), then u may want to look into (try google.com) taking ibuprofen before a race. it is not against any rules, & many olympians do this, too! some say not to do so, but it elminates the pain u feel in ur muscles, which will in turn make u run a faster time.
