How do you prevent shin splints

l quit running some time ago because of shin splints.l need to start back running for my sanity and health.l would like to especially seeto the question from those of you who have had shin splints and have successfully stopped them.

l had shin splints a few years ago and they were terrible, someone told me that potassium helped and stretch out your hips. The looser your hips are the less pressure your legs feel. This all helped me greatly

to prevent them u need to strengthen the muscles that run along the outside of the shins. There r a couple of ways to do this:
-- get a resistance band & loop one end under a heavy piece of furniture & wrap the other around ur toes. Extend the band until it is tight & then pull the band towards ur body with ur toes which will work the muscles on the outside of the shins.
-- lay face down on ur bed & hang ur toes over the edge of the mattress. Pull ur toes towards you, using the mattress as resistance. This will also strengthen these muscles.

stretching is the best way to do it, stretch before and after, and if you get them ice them in a cooler of ice for about an hour and your legs will come out feeling better than ever.

Your'e heel striking. Stop it. Look at the distance runners from Kenya, they run barefoot and their style is perfect.

Google a pair of Strength Shoes and study them. Imagine how your foot would strike the ground in a pair of those shoes, then try to emulate that while you run, landing and pushing off the ball of the foot.
